Vintage Boudoir and Bridal Boudoir – not in the bedroom!

A lovely shoot combining gorgeous accessories with a fabulous location

Following the success of our previous shoot, Sara Gadd and I put our heads together to plan another Vintage styled photoshoot at the lovely Warwick Hall, near Carlisle, Cumbria.  Again, we wanted to use this as an opportunity to showcase both Sara’s beautiful hairpieces and hats and Pinktulip’s ‘My Boudoir’ portrait photography sessions.

During this shoot I was particularly keen to explore locations ‘outside the bedroom’ – alternatives included the Morning Room, and for me, the highlight of the shoot was working in the Walled Garden, which is a very private and beautiful location. I managed to lay my hands on a vintage bicycle, which proved to be a great prop, particularly when we filled the basket with an abundance of rhododendron flowers (I had popped a pair of secateurs in my goody bag), thanks Val, for letting us prune your rhody bushes a little!

This shoot was great fun, and demonstrates the versatility of a ‘My Boudoir’s shoot with Pinktulip!  Photographing on location is a great way to work, and means we can be flexible and creative in capturing imagery that is personal and special to you!

Thanks Sara, for your wonderful accessories and styling contribution, and thanks Michelle for being our willing subject!  Also thanks to Bridget Foster for your lovely make-up.

On a parting note, couldn’t resist popping this image in!  Last shot of the day! xx

Vintage Bridal Boudoir Shoot – Warwick Hall, Carlisle, Cumbria

Beautiful accessories contribute to the wonderfully feminine feel of these images

I love doing boudoir shoots – each shoot is unique, and this is just the way I like it!

Recently I have been fortunate in teaming up with local talented Milliner, Sara Gadd, and together we planned a Vintage Bridal Boudoir shoot, where careful consideration was placed upon accessorising and styling the shoot.

Sara and I share a passion for the glamour and romance of the 40’s, so it was not difficult to get this session off the ground!  On the day, we both turned up with lots of goodies, but hats off to Sara (pardon the pun!), she arrived with some of her beautiful bridal hair pieces, along with a stunning collection of antique jewellery, silk gloves, old stoles, parasols…. this was showing the signs of being a great girly day!

Jeni Banks of Mayfifteen was our model for the day, and an appropriate choice, as Jeni also shares a great passion for all things vintage.  Finally the fabulous Bridget Foster provided on-location hair and make-up.

Feathers, black lace and bows all conbribute to these fab pics, all taken outdoors!

As with all my shoots, one of my priorities is to locate great natural light, to flatter my subject – and there was no shortage of this at Warwick Hall, with its gorgeous architecture, and generous georgian windows!  The other thing I was keen to do with this shoot, was to take the session outdoors!  Working outdoors always seems to turn up unexpected and delightful results, where the lighting conditions continually change, and can bring up beautiful results.

I am delighted with the outcome of this shoot, which demonstrates how styling and the location can contribute to the outcome of a session.

Many thanks to Sara, Jeni, Bridget and of course Val of Warwick Hall.  I am already looking forward to our next venture!

Thinking about a Boudoir Shoot, but not sure if it for you? Do read on…

I had a recent boudoir booking with the lovely Katie Sands, from Cockermouth, Cumbria.  Katie was very excited about the idea of a shoot, but a little uncertain at the same time!  So, after a good chat on the phone, we decided to get together for a coffee in Carlisle (any excuse for me to have coffee and cake!).  This was a great opportunity to get to know Katie a little, and have a chat about what sort of things appeal to her, and also for me to make suggestions about  lingerie and accessories. Following our chat, Katie went on a bit of a shopping mission in Carlisle, and treated herself to some new goodies including lingerie and jewellery, which all helps add to the feel-good factor of the shoot!

The following week Katie had her shoot, which was a lovely fun session, and resulted in Katie ordering a gorgeous Boudoir Portrait Box.  Katie was kind enough to send me a testimonial, which I would like to share with you, as it really does demonstrate how empowering a ‘My Boudoir’ shoot is!  A great confidence booster! xx

Having these photos done was such a life changing thing for me.  I am lucky enough to have a wonderful husband who compliments me every day on how beautiful or sexy I look but admittedly my flaw was not believing him and feeling low about my body. By having these photos done I was hoping it would show me exactly how my husband sees me and why he finds me so attractive and wow what an affect it’s made.

When I first saw the pictures I was overwhelmed by them, I think I must have said “this isn’t my bum” about 20 times because I couldn’t get over how great it looked.  Now I can see why he loves it!

When my husband saw the photos he was blown away and proud of me,  not only for having the pictures done for him but also to boost my body confidence and it’s certainly done that!

I guess I wanted to show to women that you can look and feel sexy regardless of your size as there are too many pressures for women to be very thin to look beautiful so I hope by doing this I have inspired other women to do the same.

Thank you again to Louise who was great throughout the whole experience I couldn’t have asked for a more lovely person who made me feel so comfortable about the experience.

Love Katie x

Celebrate your Prom with a ‘Love your Prom Dress’ photoshoot!

A Portrait session aimed at capturing you looking fab in your prom dress!

I have had a busy couple of months working on a new portrait session ‘Love your Prom Dress, which I am delighted to say we will be offering this summer!

I would like to give a big thank you to Nikki Little (a fabulous local model) and the lovely Lucy Jennings (a student at William Howard) who have both helped me  in trialling my new shoot.  I would also like to mention Bridget Foster, a talented make-up artist who has joined us on location for make-up and hair styling.

The initial seed of this idea has come from the ‘Cherish the Dress’ concept – where a bride has a follow-up shoot after her wedding day, to celebrate her dress.  This is a time to focus on you, and your enjoyment of your dress, in a fun lifestyle shoot with a fashion twist – and it gives you a great excuse to get back  into that frock before it is potentially packed away into the loft….

A ‘Love your Prom Dress’ shoot is a 2-3 hour shoot on location.  The main focus of the shoot is to capture you looking fabulous in your dress!  In addition, there is the opportunity to change into something more casual, for alternative shots with a different feel.  Most of our shoots are in outdoor locations, chosen to compliment you, the feel you would like and your personality.  The ideal time for this shoot is sometime over the summer hols, after your prom.  All our shots are naturally lit, and so taken during the daytime.  Shoots can be booked during the week, and also at weekends.

During the following week we work on creating a beautiful collection of images, from which you can make a selection to create a wonderful wall collage, or coffee table book.  A great keepsake from this milestone occasion in a teenage girls life!

Pop along to Carol Roberts Couture Bridal, 19 Warwick Road, Carlisle.  By about the 20th  of May 2011, there will be a display of our ‘Love your Prom Dress’ samples within Carols wonderful Bridal shop, within her Prom Dress area.  A great excuse to call in and take a peek at Carols gorgeous prom dresses and accessories too!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all.  Our office number is 016977 42798,  thanks for reading my post, Lou x

Newborn Baby Shoot – Noah, Penrith, Cumbria

Sleepy newborn baby

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing mum-to-be Louise Fell, at 34 weeks (around 34 weeks pregnancy is perfect for a fabulous bump).  Louise is a dental technician at Ghyllmount Dental Practice in Penrith, and is married to Andrew, a local scaffolder.  Louise had booked a Bump to Baby shoot, aimed at capturing her wonderful bump, with a follow on shoot to capture and celebrate their new arrival!

Following the timely arrival of Noah (just one day after his due date), Louise contacted me to arrange Noah’s Newborn baby portrait session – and here is a peek of a few images of gorgeous Noah, at just under 2 weeks old!

All our newborn shoots are held in the comfort of your own home, and I work around your routine, in a relaxed, unhurried way.  Being in your home helps make the shoot very personal, and we can even incorporate some of your accessories.  During Noah’s shoot it became apparent that Louise has a love of home-spun, handcrafted accessories, which contributed to the idea of using Louise’s pretty wicker basket, along with some  heart accessories.

Photographing babies is one of the real delights of my job.  If you would like me to capture your little bundle of joy, please get in touch!  Give me a call on 016977 42798 or email

Fabulous ways with your fabulous images!

A lovely client of mine recently expressed an interest in a finished piece, to display in her bedroom.  Lauren has a love of ‘hearts’ in her home, and had jokingly asked whether I could do a heart shaped frame!  After a little research, I put this together, which is a collage of images, laid over a background colour and texture, which can be adjusted to suit the interior. The finished piece is intended to be presented as a canvas, or a lovely box frame.

I thought I would share this with you, as hopefully it demonstrates our flexible and creative approach to our photography and post production.  If you would like a bespoke piece of work for your home, please get in touch for a chat!
